People whose homes were flooded this summer won't necessarily see their insurance premiums rise as a result, it has been claimed.

The Association of British Insurers claims that "many factors" will determine whether victims of this summer's flooding will face higher insurance premiums - and that several providers have, in fact, said that they won't increase premium prices.

"It depends on whether or not the property has a history of flooding," an ABI spokesman explained, as he detailed the potential causes of future flooding.

"If the company have faced more flood related claims than they will have budgeted for, that may have to be reflected in the future costs of flood insurance. It's not a given that premiums are automatically going to increase."

In the three months up to July 23rd 2007 rainfall was more than double the usual average for the time of year - with over 60,000 homes hit by flooding.
