The increasing problem of insurance fraud is set to be highlighted this week in two television programmes.

Honest, tonight on ITV 1 at 9pm, shows the character of Lindsay getting a job at an insurance company and soon realising that her colleagues have an elaborate scam going whereby they validate each other's fraudulent claims.

Lindsay, who is desperately trying to go straight after a life of crime and while her husband is serving a jail term, is put in the position of either joining in with the fraud or putting her job in jeopardy by refusing to toe the line.

In the second programme, to be aired tomorrow, a Channel 4 show entitled Scams, Fiddles and Honest Claims, Cutting Edge have been given "unprecedented access" to a fraud team at Norwich Union.

In a press release, Channel 4 said: "With big lies, little lies and hand-on-heart honesty, this observational documentary follows the stories behind the claims and asks: who is telling the truth?"

According to a survey by a leading insurer, three in four British adults believe that dishonesty is widespread in today's society.
