Men 'are worse drivers than women'
Adverts for women-only car insurance products have received backing from new research.

Figures compiled by Confused.com, a price comparison website, showed that men are two-and-a-half times more likely to be convicted of a driving offence.

Male drivers were responsible for 2,305,374 motoring convictions last year ranging from death by dangerous driving to speeding. Women notched up 920,027.

"We would like to remind drivers that not only does dangerous and careless driving have a safety implication, but gaining points on your licence also has a detrimental effect on your insurance premiums," said Debra Williams, managing director of Confused.com.

"On average, a driver with three points will see premiums leap seven per cent, rising to 25 per cent for six points and 50 per cent for nine points.

"The number of insurers willing to insure a driver with nine points can halve," she added.

Confused.com recorded a total of 3.2 million driving offences over the 12-month period.
