The British International Motor Show is to showcase an array of electric cars at this year's exhibition.

More than 20 zero-emissions vehicles, powered solely by battery power, will be on display in the biggest exhibition of its kind ever in the UK.

This type of vehicle is around 70 per cent more environmentally-friendly than its fossil-fuelled cousins and is exempt from London's congestion charge.

However, such vehicles may not necessarily guarantee drivers cheaper car insurance after the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) recently stated that the greenness of a vehicle is not a major consideration when choosing which insurance group it goes in.

Kirsty Perkinson, the Motor Show marketing director, said that the display will highlight the plethora of choice available to consumers.

"The aim of the feature is to highlight the significant advances made in developing zero-emissions vehicles and to reflect the mushrooming demand for these cars," she said.
