According to MoneyExpert.com, the proportion of car and household insurance customers changing their provider has not changed year-on-year.
Research by the financial comparison site found that 14 per cent of motor insurance consumers and ten per cent of those with household cover switched providers in the last six months.
Sean Gardner, founder of MoneyExpert.com, told Firstrung.co.uk that the current financial climate has left many consumers cautious that just accepting the first quote given to them could cost them more than is necessary.
"Doing nothing shouldn't be an option. There are still good deals out there and if finances are stretched savings should be sought if at all possible," he said.
MoneyExpert.com allows consumers to compare the prices of insurance, mortgage and credit card products.
