A man from Stonehouse has been banned from driving and given penalty points for driving his friends' car while not possessing insurance or a licence.

Robert Farrugia, was given six points for driving uninsured and banned for six months for not possessing a valid licence, the Stroud News and Journal reports.

He was stopped by police while driving his friend's Alfa Romeo in Park Road and had already incurred eight points for previous motoring offences.

Mr Farrugia claimed he was merely manoeuvring the vehicle after carrying out some repair work on it.

"I was repairing the car and all I was doing was turning the car round. I don't mind being disqualified - I'm not driving anyway," he told the court.

Driving a vehicle without insurance is an offence covered by the Road Traffic Act 1988 which states that at no time can a vehicle be operated without sufficient cover.
