People in Carlisle 'could be paying too much for insurance'

According to a study carried out by Ordnance Survey (OS), more than 16,700 homes in the area are at risk of flood damage meaning some residents may have to pay between £10,000 and £50,000 in excess charges to secure a policy, the News and Star claims.
Paul Hendy, from Communities Reunited, told the news provider premiums for consumers living in certain locations increased between £100 and £250 a year following the flooding in 2005.
"What is annoying is that the data is there to be able to correctly assess people's flood risk and premiums, but at the end of the day the insurance companies are choosing not to use that data," he said.
Sarah Adams, insurance sector manager at OS, told the newspaper firms brand certain properties as high risk due to the postcode they have, something which is not always true.
In 2005, flooding in Carlisle left schools, roads and a police station closed, according to the BBC.
