Police use helicopter to track speeders
In an effort to crack down on speeding motorists, police in Essex are taking to the skies.

The force has fitted radars to its helicopter to detect speeders travelling along roads in the region.

Essex Police traffic management officer Adam Pipe said the force welcomed the new initiative, which he claimed makes use of the "extensive technology available".

"Use of the force helicopter will enable officers to obtain video evidence of offences, including excess speed, plus support-specific road safety operations, providing information and intelligence to officers on the ground," he stated.

Being caught speeding could mean motorists face higher insurance premiums.

In related news, Essex Police recently reported that the number of people killed or seriously injured on the region's roads has fallen over the last decade.

The force said in 1997 there were 1,452 fatalities or serious injuries but since then there has been a 30 per cent reduction in such incidents.ADNFCR-1058-ID-18753840-ADNFCR
